The Journey

journey 1

Starting in late September 2008 and running through November 2008, Rachel Colenso and Charlotte De Klerk are attempting to carry their babies on a rocky and mountainous journey covering over 8000m of ascent, and roughly 140km of rugged terrain. The panoramic route that they have selected will take teams through indigenous fynbos, over historic mountains and across beautiful beaches.

It has been divided into 25 easily manageable sections, each to be completed consecutively, on different days, in order to complete the entire journey. As a potential ‘expeditioner’ you and your team will support the cause through a donation to the charity, and the opportunity to be part of the Western Capes biggest ever Peninsula Expedition.

Each section has been carefully designed to provide an exciting, beautiful and impressive challenge in itself. The journey includes the most spectacular scenery encapsulating the beauty of the Cape Peninsula, covering land steeped in history, geological interest, flora and fauna. Sections are between 2 and 4.5 hours in length, and graded in terms of difficulty. We will provide various options specifically suited to you and your team in a consultation meeting, and will brief your team on how the operation is being organised. We are looking for people of all ages, and from all backgrounds to join our team and become part of this landmark expedition.
Other than your participation, in return for your support we are offering your organization a number of attractive benefits.

Our aims are:

  • To promote and raise funds for The Door of Hope Charity for the benefit of abandoned babies in South Africa
  • To encourage Eco Tourism and healthy living by  promoting the benefits of hiking in Cape Point, Silver mine and Table Mountain National Parks
  • To document the entire journey through visual and written representations to be represented on the internet and through the media

Together we can help improve the lives of young South Africans, and help to promote sustainable tourism by raising awareness of the opportunities our beautiful land has on offer.
